Bourbon Vanilla

Bourbon (Planifolia) is one of the most popular vanilla beans in the world market today.

Our Bourbon vanilla beans (Vanilla Planifolia) are long and slender, with a very rich taste and smell, have thick, oily skin, contain an abundance of tiny seeds, and have a strong vanilla aroma. Bourbon beans from Madagascar and the Comoros are described as being creamy, haylike, and sweet, with vanillin overtones.

Although not certified organic, our beans are produced organically and come from a particular region of Madagascar known as S.A.V.A. which is known for producing some of the worlds very best vanilla.

S.A.V.A. is the North-East region of Madagascar and encompasses Sambava, Antalaha, Vohémar and Andapa, the four main towns in the districts of production. It unites all the ideal conditions for Vanilla cultivation : a humid tropical environment with average temperatures between 20°C and 30°C. Rain is abundant from December to March, low in September/October and average for the rest of the year.

We normally send out our vanilla with a recommended shelf life of around 6 months. But in truth, the vanillas olfactory and gustative qualities improve the longer it is stored. Its exceptionally sweet flavours continue to develop over the years. For the longest life always store your vanilla in an airtight container.
